That's interesting. All the other anti-vax ravers are saying it adds nothing, judging by what I read on the autism blogs.
The relationship between Pope John and "Saint Andy" Wakefield might be approximated by that between disciple (Pope John) and Saviour (the Blessed Andy). So perhaps that is what you are seeing.
Re the original Pope John quote, the "next man" is probably Clifford G Miller, John "It's The Mercury!" Fryer or ShabbyTabby, so Stone was speaking the literal truth.
